In 2005 Mr Rix started developing expertise in HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate), proven to be more effective than traditional prostate operations. In 2006 he was one of the first urologists in Colchester to perform a laparoscopic nephrectomy for kidney cancer and has since also developed a specialist practice in laparoscopic pyeloplasty for PUJ obstruction. In 2023 he obtained his robotic qualification to perform robotic pyeloplasty and nephrectomy.
Mr Rix has run a regular paediatric urology clinic and a dedicated paediatric operating list at Colchester for many years.
